RCT saves an infected or deeply decayed tooth by removing the inflamed nerve from inside the root, disinfecting the canals, and sealing them to stop pain and reinfection. After an exam and X-ray, the tooth is numbed with local anesthesia and isolated with a rubber dam. We clean and shape the canals with rotary files, irrigate with disinfectants, place a medicated or temporary filling if needed, and then obturate (seal) the canals before placing a permanent filling. A crown is usually recommended to prevent fracture. Most cases finish in 1–2 visits; post-treatment tenderness for 1–3 days is common and managed with analgesics.
